What is there to see at MoMA?

The Museum of Modern Art has one of the best collections of modern and contemporary art in the world, with galleries packed with artworks by big name artists.

Some highlights from the museums collection include:

Water Lilies by Claude Monet
In the final decades of his life, Monet embarked on a series of monumental compositions depicting the lush lily ponds in his gardens in Giverny, in northwestern France.

This breathtaking display at the Museum of Modern Art wraps around the gallery walls, captivating visitors.

The Starry Night

Painted while Vincent van Gogh was a patient at the Saint-Paul mental asylum in Saint-Rémy, The Starry Night is perhaps the finest example of the artists work.

The Persistence of Memory

The Persistence of Memory is a 1931 painting by artist Salvador Dalí, and one of the most recognizable works of Surrealism. What might surprise you about this artwork is it’s size.

When is the best time to visit MoMA?

The Museum of Modern Art is one of the most popular museums in North America, welcoming about 3 million people annually.

That means that it’s rarely quiet.

If you want to avoid the crowds, then head to MoMA when it’s sunny outside, and avoid visiting when it’s raining. The number of visitors doubles when it’s wet outside.

Another tip is to visit MoMA in the afternoon, as mornings tend to be busier at the museum, so visit after 12.

The exception is Sunday morning when the museum tends to be quieter.

MoMA offers free entry on Friday afternoon from 4pm – 8pm, so if you’re on a budget this is the best time to visit. But expect queues.
